Hello all. Here we are, a week away from Doors Open London (DOL) and things are coming together. The building is looking good, the posters are out, the brochure is in production, the choir is warming up and everyone is working on their smiles. We can still do with a few more tour guides and greeters, some more baking and perhaps one or two people to "float" just to help where they are needed. Above all, why not plan on touring your church home and why not bring a friend? There is lots going on: learn about the church; enjoy the cafe; experience Choral Matins and be part of our first Jazz Vespers. Thanks to everyone for your participation.
Guys and Dolls. The dolls anyway. Thank you to everyone who gave a doll a new home and thank you to Janet Rasmussen for the idea.
Doors Open London. 20-21 September. St. Martin-in-the-Fields is participating in this city wide event. We have been working all summer to prepare the building and now it's time to move into high gear. Doors Open London is a wonderful opportunity to present St. Martin's to the community and hopefully have some fun doing it. We have spots available for all. Fancy yourself as a tour guide or greeter? The plan is to station guides throughout the church to speak on areas of interest and to answer questions. Notes will be provided. Greeters will be needed at the door both days. In particular on Sunday to guide visitors in who may arrive during the services. More a behind the scenes type? We need help in the cafe and assistance with baking. Have a flare for marketing and distribution of posters to local businesses? We have a spot for you too. Look for our famous sign up lists on the Narthex table. For more information on Doors Open London go to https://www.doorsopenontario.on.ca/pages/events/london?view_mode=cards St. Martin's is on page two of the list of sites. See our poster below.
Baking For Doors Open London. Do you like to bake? Great because we need baking!!! As part of Doors Open London taking place September 20-21, St. Martin-in-the-Fields will be welcoming visitors into our church home-and you can’t have visitors without offering them a cup of tea or coffee and a treat, so we are hosting The Cafe in the Cellar!
But as much as myself and a few others like to bake, we need more! Therefore I am asking if you could possibly make an extra dozen or two of your famous chocolate chip cookies or a few loaves of banana bread or muffins. Anything at all would be appreciated!!!!! I have an empty freezer that I am happy to store whatever you can bake for us so please feel free to fill it! Pickup can be arranged. Don’t worry, any leftover goodies will be kept for use at future coffee hours so the more we have the better!!
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask me! Nancy Haley

St. Martin's, Our History and Our Artifacts. St. David's Altar. Resting in the alcove to the south of the Chancel it looks like it has always been there but in fact St. David's Altar is a recent addition to the church. It was built as a gift by Doug Gimson, a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist in Strathroy for use in the chapel at Huron Church House, the office of the diocese. It was built taller than the standard altar because the last two rectors of St. John’s (Bp Bill Cliff and Fr. Willi Kammerer) were both taller than the standard priest. It was used at Huron Church House for several years while Fr. Willi worked there and was eventually replaced by an altar from a deconsecrated church in the diocese. After that, instead of going into storage, it was brought to St. Martin’s where it has been used on occasion for smaller services such as the Midweek Eucharist. [With thanks to Fr. Willi for his recollections]
The Chancel Guild is looking to recruit new members. If you are interested, please see Marie or Rev'd Sarah.
St. Paul's Social Services -Thank you for your continued generosity. St. Paul's Social Services is an outreach program, a part of which is the St. Paul's Food Bank. Your generous donations help support it. Look for the bin in the cloakroom marked "St. Paul's Food Bank". Food of all descriptions should be the first priority. Please give what you can. In addition to food, toiletries, especially in small sizes are always useful. Monetary donations are also well received as it lets them buy items which are needed but not always donated or they buy in bulk. Like everyone else they are being hit by the rising price of food. Please make cheques payable to St. Paul's Social Services. Tax receipts will be issued directly by St. Paul's Social Services. For the moment please do not donate containers as they are in discussions with the local Health Inspectors on their use.
We Are Collecting Egg Cartons. Annele Robertson has a friend who can use egg cartons for......eggs! Drop them off in the cloakroom and Annele will pick them up.
Milk Bag Collection is Back. The ladies are back to making mats. Please bring in your milk bags and put them in the marked box in the Cloakroom
