William Lupton has been an organist since the age of ten and has played in parishes throughout the Anglican Diocese of Huron including ten years as associate organist at St. Paul’s Cathedral. He came to St. Martin-in-the-Fields in October 2010 as Director of Music.
In June 2025 he retired after thirty years as Director of Chapel Music and Lecturer in the Faculty of Theology at Huron University. For his service to Huron, he was awarded the Medal of Distinction at the Faculty of Theology Convocation in May 2025. William is accredited in church music and organ performance both in Canada and the United Kingdom. In 2005 and 2008, he directed two successful choir tours in England. He has conducted performances of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem and Sir John Stainer’s Crucifixion.
William is past-President of the Royal School of Church Music Canada and continues to serve on the Board of Directors. He is Administrator and Head Examiner of the RSCM Singing Awards. He serves on the examinations committee of the Royal Canada College of Organists. In 2015 the Bishop of Huron awarded William the Order of Huron for his contributions to church music. In 2017 he received the Associate diploma from the Royal School of Church Music at Canterbury Cathedral during the RSCM Celebration Day.
