Hello all.

We're all back! Sandra, Bill Lupton, Nancy and I and of course Rev'd Sarah.  This will mainly be a "reminder" issue, with one or two new items tossed in.

Pastoral Letter from Rev’d Sarah

Please read the attached letter from Rev’d Sarah.

What Are We Working On?   Why not start with a list of things we are working on around the church.  Larry Chisholm was kind enough to provide the following update:

  • Lupton’s Loft is complete. The new door is in place and the painting of the trim has occurred..
  • Soffit, fascia and eavestrough have been replaced on the east side of Congress Hall. In the next few days Big O pipe will be attached to the downspouts to run the water from the roof / eavestrough away from the church foundation.
  • Window frames on the east side of Congress Hall (Playground for Montessori children) will be painted.·
  •  Landscaping along the sidewalk of the Oban St. entrance will take place. The bricks that are forming the “curb” will be removed and the lawn reshaped.
  •   Between the middle of August and the end of the month we hope to have the new windows installed on the lower east side of the Sanctuary. At the same time a new double door will be installed at the east entrance to the church exiting onto the Montessori playground area. One door will be permanently “fixed” in position but can be opened should there be a need to move large objects up or down the stairs. Glass in both the doors and windows will be tempered safety glass. In the event the glass is accidentally hit, the glass breaks into small particles for safety purposes. Nothing is to be affixed to the glass or the new door frames.
  • Once the windows and doors are installed there will be 2-3 days needed to paint the trim and possibly the surrounding walls. Access through the doors will be restricted.
  •   Once the new doors are in place we will be re-keying the church door locks both external and internal for security reasons. Keys will be reassigned by the Church Wardens and Rector.
  •  Objects on the outside of the fence and along other exterior areas of the church may be removed in hopes of presenting a better image within the community.
  •  The new stove is in place.  Nancy Haley has volunteered to confirm the stove’s features function well and will establish instructions for use of the stove by members of the church and outside groups. The new stove does not have a receptacle (new electrical code for appliances) to plug items into (example: a kettle).  Therefore instructions will be produced as to what can be plugged in where to ensure the circuits are not overloaded during special events.
  •   The overhead heater in the Oban entrance way of Congress Hall is not to be operated. The venting for this unit is damaging (scorching) the soffit on the northside of Congress Hall. We are in the process of seeing how we can improve this function.
  • The cloakroom requires cleaning out, principally the records which require shredding.  We are researching the most efficient way of having them shredded.
  •  The air conditioning unit no longer has a barrier. We are trying to find a contractor that will effectively clean the A/C coils without using an acid wash.

Baking For Doors Open London.  There will be a cafe in Rowland Hall as part of Doors Open London.  It will be by donation only and will consist of coffee, tea, lemonade, juice, water and bake goods.  Nancy Haley is organizing the cafe and would appreciate any donations of baked goods.  They should be wrapped for the freezer and identified.  Nancy can take them as soon as you like.

Parish Council Meeting. The next meeting of Parish Council to continue our planning for Doors Open London will be Wednesday August 20th at 6:30 pm.

The Next Coffee Hour.  The next Coffee Hour will be Sunday 17 August following the 10:00 am service.  Join us and catch up on the news with your friends.

St. Martin's, Our History and Our Artifacts.  Look for more in the next edition.

The Chancel Guild is looking to recruit new members.  If you are interested, please see Marie or Rev'd Sarah.

St. Paul's Social Services -Thank you for your continued generosity.  St. Paul's Social Services is an outreach program, a part of which is the St. Paul's Food Bank.  Your generous donations help support it.   Look for the bin in the cloakroom marked "St. Paul's Food Bank".  Food of all descriptions should be the first priority.   Please give what you can.    In addition to food, toiletries, especially in small sizes are always useful. Monetary donations are also well received as it lets them buy items which are needed but not always donated or they buy in bulk.  Like everyone else they are being hit by the rising price of food.  Please make cheques payable to St. Paul's Social Services.  Tax receipts will be issued directly by St. Paul's Social Services.  For the moment please do not donate containers as they are in discussions with the local Health Inspectors on their use.

We Are Collecting Egg Cartons.  Annele Robertson has a friend who can use egg cartons for......eggs!  Drop them off in the cloakroom and Annele will pick them up.

Milk Bag Collection is Back.  The ladies are back to making mats.  Please bring in your milk bags and put them in the marked box in the Cloakroom

Email Address  Please check that you have our correct email address in your contacts.  It is stmartinslondon@diohuron.org .  The old email address is no longer supported, and we will be losing access to it soon.  Also, if you change your email address, please let us know so we can update our records.
